Project. Requalification of Praça do Bacalhau, Beja

Year. 2021

Description. Beja, an ancient city with an unavoidable wealth of archaeological remains. The first existing remains in Jacinto Freire Andrade Square date back to the 1st century. The square is located in close connection with the historic center of Beja and currently offers a pleasant place to stay, pass and meet Bejenses.
With the main objective of creating an accessible network throughout the historic center, the Municipality of Beja joined forces with the MPT to promote a design that respected the history of the place and, at the same time, allowed the creation of a new square. and with space accessible to all, without exception.
In this sense, based on the projects developed by MPT for the historic center of Beja, an attempt was made to adopt a concept of continuity of interventions, valuing a design that included the human scale, the creation of happy spaces that took advantage of the patina of colors and the warm light of the place. This was the project that we managed to see born.
