Project. Lino Correia Sports Center - Guinea-Bissau

Year. 2013

Description. THE REQUEST

The sports centre, 'Lino Correia', currently 'Lino correia' stadium, is located in the heart of the city and next to main streat which connects the centre to the airport. With this project we intent to creat a new centrality to the city, promoting its sport patent and giving it a social and cultural dimension. Being, Guinea Bissau a underdevelopment country, it's capital must be the engine of the growth and present sustainable and innovating solutions.

Lino Correia', aims to join talented young people to practice sports, promoting integrated education besides school. In this sports infrastructure, with a cantine, a studying room / library and other sportive areas, simultaneously, there will be a professional and educational support in a vast number of areas of personal development.

THE PROJECT: more than a Sport project

Regarding the centre program, the existent playing field becomes a 6000 seats stadium occupies the main place in the project. Besides this, there are two more training fields ( 11 and 7 football ) and two playing fields ( 5 football ) allowing the simultaneous use by different teams and age groups. The gymnasium and the physiotherapy clinic suggest how to help the sport center and may be used by the community, being near the streat.

In addiction to the sports places there are many places which give the youngsters a integration of diverse patents of personal development, having a cantine to lunch after school and a studying room/ library to be while not training, promoting the education and preventing the anticipated professional initiation to support family finances.

Besides the educative and sportive patent, this centre also aims to give an answer to some city needs, promoting new quality spaces. Therefore, the complex it's turned to the street, being a continuity of the city it self, creating a semi private square with some stores, cafes and restaurants. In the main facade, facing the main street, there will be complementary stores which to aim to attract new investors to this area.

As far as the strong touristic patent of the islands and the fact that many tourists spend only one night in the capital is concerned, this centre and its facilities an work as a cultural attraction. A reference to the ones who practice sports, and visit the city, as well as to the ones who live and work there.

DESIGN AND ARCHITECTURAL OPTION

In terms of architectural space, the building has a lower volume composed by stores, cafes, stadium ( ticket office, entrance areas, and support areas) and physiotherapy clinic. In The upper volume, in a 'L' shape, are located VIP areas, restaurant, cantine, library/studying room and all the supporting areas. The architectural conception and the designing options based in two fundamental pillars: the inclusive architecture, which is able to support disable people, and in the environmental sustainability.

Considering the inexistent national materials, we look for using easy transportation materials. The lower facade is covered with distended metal painted dark grey, allowing the direct ventilation in some areas as in the up seats area. The stores areas have big windows promoting a bigger connection between the inside and outside areas. The upper volume is covered with metal tissue and has different soccer players shadows moving, on one hand identifying the sportive spirit of the centre and on the other hand showing the dynamism and movement necessary to the country. In the square area, this volume is on the pillars Curtain, establishing the transition between the street and the square.

The colors/materials used are mainly metal and hot colors, associating the purity and resistance of Guinness people to their interior strengths. To sum up, this project, with its modern and innovating image pretends to be an inspiration fountain and mainly a reference equipment to the sustainable growth of the country and its people.
